Basic Types of Exercise for Health and Fitness

Fitness, in simple terms, is a condition of health and well being and, more importantly, the ability to do everyday activities, tasks and sports well. Usually, physical fitness is achieved through regular exercise, proper nutrition and enough rest. In this regard, it is important to know that being fit does not necessarily mean being overweight or underweight. Being fit does not also mean having an extremely muscular body. Most people tend to assume that being fit means having large muscles and even if they do have large muscles, it does not necessarily mean that their condition is conducive to physical activity.

 

Being physically fit means being able to do everyday tasks such as climbing stairs, walking to the bus stop or ferry and carrying a bag or book without falling. It also means that you are able to sit comfortably on a chair even when you are tired after a day’s work. This in turn means that you are mentally healthy and you are able to concentrate properly on your work or daily tasks. When it comes to physical fitness, you need to follow an exercise program to stay fit. However, before choosing an exercise program, you need to consider a number of factors such as your current health condition, your age, how much time you can spare for exercise and the facilities at home where you intend to do your exercise.

 

Strength Training Physical fitness includes several types of physical activity including weightlifting, running, sprinting and strength training. There is however more to strength training than just working out on the gym floor. Strength training is a full body movement that strengthens and tones the muscles. It is necessary to choose the right strength training routine that targets the area of concern and does not overstretch your body. When you are looking for a suitable strength training routine, it is best to consult a personal trainer who can advise you on what type of exercise works best for you.

 

Flexibility Fitness refers to is flexible and having an ability to move freely on your own. Flexibility refers to the joints and muscles that are being used to run, jump and climb. Having a high level of flexibility makes you less prone to injury and increases your endurance levels. If you want to improve your fitness levels, it is important to look at your body composition and work on improving your flexibility. Your body composition measures the percentage of fat, muscle and water in your body.

 

Lean Mass and Energy Fitness refers to boosting your lean mass (muscle) and decreasing your fat percentage. Lean mass generally equals weight plus bone mineral deposits and is used to replace energy when you perform physical exercises. On the other hand, reducing your fat percentage indicates you have high energy levels and you burn through more calories throughout the day. Both lean mass and energy are vital components of a healthy diet and work together to enhance a person’s general fitness levels.

 

Endurance Fitness measures the efficiency of the body’s motor and sensory systems in maintaining a specific amount of activity for an extended period of time. The brain generates the majority of our endurance capability, which is determined by our muscles. Our muscles’ endurance ranges from low to very high depending on what task we’re trying to complete. Our body has two types of fibers: red and white fibers. White fibers are fast-moving and are generally used for fast movements, while red fibers are slower-moving and are used for slow, steady movements.
